Plakat Forderung Reinheitsgebot Schokolade

The food industry needs new rules. That's why we demand the purity law for chocolate bars.

Exploitation of people and planet? Cryptic ingredient lists? More sugar than cocoa in chocolate? Not with us! We do our best and demand the chocolate bar purity law.

Recap - what happened in 2020

Last year we took the stage to make our stance clear and to denounce what is wrong in the food industry. We demanded a tax and sued big corporations. We addressed issues that concern and hurt us as a young company, but also as a whole generation: sugar consumption. plastic pollution. carbon footprints. Fairtrade.

Some big players have responded. Most don't. And has changed... nothing. Meanwhile, global temperatures continue to rise, tons of single-use plastic waste continues to be generated from food, polluting our waters and soil, and child slaves still work in the cocoa fields of West Africa. Animals, people and our planet continue to be exploited for a brief moment of chocolate indulgence. We think this shouldn't go on like this. That's why we're doing nails with heads this year.

Status quo: why we urgently need a purity law

We demand a purity law for chocolate bars and invite the largest food companies to the table

On October 21st, 2021 we invite Nestlé, Ferrero, Storck and Co. to Leipzig for an open dialogue to talk to them about our six new rules for chocolate bars.

In Germany, more than half of adults and 15 percent of children and adolescents are overweight - also because they eat too much sweets. Instead of the 25 grams of sugar per day recommended by the World Health Organization, we consume an average of 90 grams.

Lettering Where it says chocolate, it shouldn't just contain sugar

A study by the University of Zurich in cooperation with the University Hospital Zurich has now confirmed that added sugar drastically increases the liver's fat production, which significantly increases the long-term risk of diseases such as fatty liver or type 2 diabetes. Our bars contain 17% sugar 100g on average 65% less sugar than comparable chocolate bars! We consciously decided against sweeteners and rely on the sustainable, natural and unrefined alternative for our products: coconut blossom sugar. Learn more...

A lot of packaging is made of plastic and aluminum. Not only does aluminum take 200 years to decompose, it also leaves pollutants in food and during production. Plastic packaging is not decomposable, but only breaks down into smaller and smaller components (keyword: microplastics).

Lettering What is eaten in 5 minutes does not need packaging that lasts 200 years

Our packaging comes from the Repaq brand. It is made from natural and renewable raw materials, is free of genetically modified organisms and comes from the remains of FSC/PEFC-certified forestry. The packaging bears the "plastic free" trustmark, is free of harmful substances and does not produce any microplastics. All materials used are certified home compostable and decompose in a natural and industrial environment into H2O, CO2 and biomass within a few months. Learn more...

Every German consumes a total of 86 kilograms of fresh milk products every year. That makes us world leaders. And this despite the fact that the human body neither absolutely needs milk nor is it originally designed to digest lactose.

Lettering Dairy Industry Don't sell other mothers' milk

It is absolutely paradoxical that humans are the only creatures that consume milk from other animals and continue to do so in adulthood. Our products are completely milk-free. The skimmed milk powder in our products is replaced by tiger nut flour. For us, veganism means renouncing factory farming and animal suffering and avoiding the associated negative effects on the climate. All our products are therefore vegan, soy-free and have the V-Label. Learn more...

Studies confirm: Consumers want more transparency and clarity in the product information on food packaging. Whether disinterested or detail-oriented: most consumers find the information on food too difficult or too confusing.

Lettering If you only understand Spanish when it comes to the ingredients, something is wrong

The desire for organic food is high, but organic products accounted for only 6.4 percent of total food sales in Germany in 2019. All of our products are purely plant-based, nutritious and made from 100% natural organic ingredients. With an average of just 7 ingredients, each product has a concise, easy-to-understand ingredient list. All of our suppliers are organically certified and contribute to the protection of natural resources such as soil, water and air by avoiding the use of pesticides, chemical-synthetic fertilizers and additives. Did you know that only about 8% of cocoa worldwide comes from fair trade? In fact, the majority of cocoa comes from two countries: Ivory Coast and Ghana. There alone, over 2.2 million children work on the cocoa plantations. They are mostly between 7 and 15 years old and work up to 12 hours a day. For them, cocoa means separation from the family and heavy physical work.

Lettering child labor chocolate should make children shine not to work

Large chocolate manufacturers promised 20 years ago to end child labor in their supply chains. In 2001, this was even written into the Harkin-Engel Protocol: by 2005 there should be no more child labor. Since then, the goal has repeatedly been dated backwards. We act fairly. And not only pay 30% more for our cocoa than the usual world trade price, but also significantly more than the fair trade price. The cocoa for our chocolate comes from Satipo, Peru. The cocoa is certified according to the Control Union Fair Choice seal. The certification guarantees that all companies along the supply chain are committed to sustainable development and the improvement of social conditions. Learn more...

Some foods are real climate killers, unfortunately chocolate also causes the emission of countless greenhouse gases. There is now a CO2 price for companies that put such products on the market. But the price is way too low.

Lettering Intergenerational justice Must also be good for children and the children of your children of your children

We have recorded the CO2 emissions of our nucao original together with ClimatePartner: from raw materials and packaging to logistics and disposal, our bar emits 457 g of CO2. We offset all of these unavoidable CO2 emissions by supporting a recognized forest protection project in Peru that is certified according to international standards and a project for clean drinking water in Madagascar. But that's not enough for us: we plant a tree for every product sold. Together with our partner Eden Projects, we have planted a hell of a lot of mangroves. Learn more...
